Dax weekend trading

Weekend DAX trading is something many might not know about. It is exactly what it sounds like. You can trade DAX on the weekends on brokers that offer it. Many believe that you can only trade on weekdays. But, if that were the case, then weekend trading would not be a thing, would it? So, what is it all about?

Basically, weekend trading on DAX lets you trade on Saturdays and Sundays outside the normal weekday trading times. But not all brokers give you the option for weekend trading.

There is much more to this though. This complete guide will tell you all you need to know about weekend DAX trading, DAX forecasts, and what markets you can trade on. I will also give you a list of the products or stocks you can trade on DAX over the weekend.

Current DAX Weekend Trading Chart

Before reading our trading article regarding DAX Weekend, please consider the following DAX Weekend chart displaying the latest developments.

What is the DAX?

DAX in essence is a stock exchange. It is also known as Deutscher Aktien Index or GER40 for short. It is where the most liquid and largest 40 companies are represented which trade on the Frankfurt Exchange.

You can think of it as a German blue-chip stock market index. It tracks the performance of these top 40 companies on the Frankfurt stock exchange. You can find the full list of the companies traded here.

Many analysts consider the DAX index to be a gauge of how Germany’s economy is doing. The companies listed in the index range vastly in terms of industry. And since they are such large companies with so much economic influence, they contribute a lot to the global economy as well.

So, that means with the DAX forecasts, an analyst can say how the economy might do in the coming years.

You might have heard about the German Economic Miracle. Well, the success of these top companies is what contributed greatly to it. After World War II, this has been one of the major reasons for Germany’s ‘rebirth’.

There is one way in which DAX differs compared to others. It is updated with futures prices for the coming day. DAX updates this even if the main stock exchange itself is closed. The total market capitalization of the companies combined is a whopping $1.4 trillion.

The majority of shares are traded on the Xetra system. And members can also be added if they break into the top 25 or removed if they are no longer in the top 45.

The Xetra System

To understand the DAX index, you also need to understand the Xetra system. The term simply refers to the electronic German stock exchange. And of course, it is based in Frankfurt.

It was launched way back in 1997 to allow electronic trading for stocks, bonds, commodities contracts, warrants, etc. Owned by the Deutsche Börse Group, today the majority of the trades that are executed go through the Xetra system.

One of the main benefits of Xetra is just how in-depth it is. It gives traders all the crucial functionalities they would need. You get high transparency with the added benefit of being low cost since it is all electronic.

It is one of the first of its kind. And now it is so popular that 90% trades on the FRA happen on Xetra. In addition, 30% of ETFs in Europe also happen on Xetra. It is open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. More on this a bit later.

FRA Deep Dive

Since we want to give you all the information you might need, let’s also look at the FRA itself. By now, you should know that the FRA stands for Frankfurt Stock Exchange. And it dates back to the 11th century. Yes, you read that right.

Just by the 1500s, Frankfurt was a busy city. All kinds of active trades were taking place along with many financial services as well. In 1585, the merchants decided to start up a stock exchange. Fast forward to today, this is the FRA, Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Since Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the fourth largest in the world, it is no surprise that FRA generates most of its turnover in Germany. The total market capitalization of FRA is approximately $1.7 trillion.

DAX Weekend Trading: Trade the DAX Index Over the Weekend

The awesome thing is you have the option for DAX weekend trading. This will increase your opportunities and also give you access to some exclusive markets.

Before we go into the details though, let’s understand weekend DAX trading.

What is DAX Weekend Trading?

In essence, weekend trading is exactly what it sounds like. It is about the ability to trade stocks and assets on weekends. However, you need to be mindful of a couple of things.

Firstly, the prices can be different. Weekend prices are quoted differently compared to weekdays prices. You can even use these markets to hedge against the risks, say for your weekday trades.

But choosing the right broker makes all the difference. The last thing you want to do is go with the wrong broker and regret it. Not all brokers even let you trade on the weekends either. So, your choices are pretty limited here.

One of the best ones you can choose is IG Dax Weekend trading. Here is the deal, if you search hard enough, you will find brokers that trade DAX over the weekends. But there is a cost. The financing fees can be ridiculous.

With IG, you can trade over the weekends and benefit from the DAX exposure every day of the week. You even have currency pairs with IG as well. Pairs like GBP/USD or EUR/USD.

Plus500 is a trusted global brand that offers an easy-to-use trading platform for online traders, alongside access to share trading, crypto and a thorough selection of CFDs.

Cryptocurrency markets are open on the weekends anyway. So, there will be no problem there. Your positions on cryptocurrencies will simply continue to move. Stops and limits can still be activated too!

Investing on DAX 40 over the weekend is available. IG is different from the rest of the brokers because there are no ridiculous fees. And guess what? Options to trade and invest in UK100, HS50, and Wall Street are available on the weekends as well.

Why Trade on Weekends?

There are a couple of reasons why trading on weekends can be a good idea. One of the main reasons is that you can offset your adverse position movements. These movements could have impacted your weekday positions.

This can help you in situations where you are long on stock on the weekdays. But you are expecting some bad news. With weekend trading, you can open a short position. If you are right, then your short position will give you a profit. And it will offset some of the losses on your weekdays.

Opening Hours of the DAX (Winter and Summer)

You cannot trade if you do not know when the trading hours are. This section will help you get up to speed with all you need about trading hours. And we will deep dive into the winter and summer trading hours as well.

So, you will never miss an opportunity again. In general, the DAX operates from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, UK time. And this applies from Monday to Friday. The FRA calculates the times for late DAX from 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM, UK time.

For early DAX, the timings are a bit different. For that, the timings are 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, UK time. There is one thing you need to keep in mind though. These times can change. This is because the UK and Germany have daylight savings time.

For Germany 30 Futures, the trading hours are longer. You can trade between 12:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Of course, this is also UK time. This means that traders can get long exposure to the index.

Weekend Trading Hours

And of course, there is also a weekend trading hour. For Germany 30, the trading time is 8:00 AM to 10:40 PM on Saturdays. The good thing about IG DAX weekend is that you will not get these trading hours outside of IG.

The biggest benefit of DAX weekend trading is the ability to trade new announcements. The weekend trading times with IG are a huge benefit.

For IG indices weekend trading, the timings are slightly different.  Dax Weekend trading hours are from 4:00 AM Saturday to 10:40 PM Sunday. As usual, these are all UK times. However, there is a small thing to keep in mind here.

If you hold positions at 10:40 PM on Sundays, they will roll over to the next day’s weekday positions. Those markets resume on Sundays at 11:00 PM. Except FTSE 100 and Germany 40. They open two minutes later. Which is 11:02 PM, Sundays. Again, UK time.

For Forex, the trading times start sharp at 8:00 AM Saturday till 8:40 PM Sundays. And the same goes for any positions held during 8:40 PM on Sundays. They will roll over to the next day’s weekday positions which start at 11:00 PM Sundays.

Where is it Possible to Trade DAX Over the Weekend?

So, where can you trade DAX over the weekends? The best place to trade DAX on weekends is IG. Everyone will agree that DAX weekend trading has some hard-to-ignore benefits. And that is even more true with IG as well.

With IG, you have access to guaranteed stops. And you will not miss an opportunity ever again. You can hedge your weekday position by simply opening a weekend position. Of course, on the same market.

But you need to understand that DAX weekend trading works slightly differently based on the market. Let’s break it down for Forex, Crypto, and Indices.

Forex

I will start with forex. The Saturday and Sunday markets for USD/JPY, EUR/USD, and GBP/USD are different compared to the weekdays. This allows you to speculate on market developments. And the good thing is you will not need to alter your existing weekday positions.

The names on the platform are also different. This allows you to distinguish between weekend and weekday cables.

DAX Weekend

Indices

For indices, it is mostly a similar affair. You will have separate positions for weekdays and weekends. So, if you want to speculate on a position during the weekends, you do not need to alter any of your weekday positions.

And they are differentiated by their names as well. This helps you to clearly distinguish between the two positions and trades.

Cryptocurrencies and Crypto ETFs

Crypto trading on weekends is open during the weekend regardless. So, these work slightly differently. The weekday market is extended to the weekends. Any cryptocurrencies or CFD positions will move over to the weekends. Stops and limits are also triggered.

How to Trade the DAX With Different Brokers?

Since you cannot trade DAX directly, you need to select reputed brokers to help you. There are a couple of benefits to this. One is, of course, guidance. Brokers can guide you on your trades with different methods. But you need to ensure that the broker offers weekend trading. That is the most important option to look out for.

These include Options, CFD trading, and even Futures. So, finding the right broker is crucial. One of the best ones out there is IG. It is a highly trusted and reputed broker.

Then open an account. And some brokers like IG even give you classes to help you learn to trade. When you have an account, you can start trading. But for beginners, I advise you to get started with a demo account first. And as you get more and more experienced, you can slowly start trading for real.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Brokers

Since choosing a broker is so crucial, I wanted to give you some factors to consider. You need to keep these in mind when choosing a broker. I am going to skip weekend trading options since that is an obvious one. So, let’s get started.

Established and Trusted Entity

You need to ensure that the broker you choose to go with is trusted and an established entity. This is crucial. Trading DAX with your hard-earned money is no joke. And there will be a lot of sensitive information changing hands.

So, it is always a good thing to ensure that your broker is a well-established entity in the field. This will help you avoid any kinds of risks. You would ideally want to go with a regulated entity. This adds some extra credibility and peace of mind to the whole thing.

Commission and Fees

Sometimes the commission and fees can become the deciding factor when choosing a broker. Do not pick one that charges unreasonably high fees. It is just not worth it. This is especially true for weekend DAX trading.

Weekend trading naturally may have higher fees. So, picking a broker with low fees is a good start. Competitive fees are not the only thing though. Transparency is also very important. You do not want to sign up with a broker only to find out that there are tons of other hidden fees.

Trader Resources

Trader resources provided by the broker are super helpful. It helps you stay at the top of your game.  So, look out for brokers that offer ample trader resources like live prices and such.

Other important resources are education, training, reports, analysis, and more. Risk management tools are also very crucial since you could argue that every position you open can be a risk.

Withdrawal and Deposit Options

Convenient withdrawal and deposit options are very important. Especially if you are trading online. This will just make your life much easier. So, this is another thing you want to look into.

Customer Support

Last but not least, good customer support is also very important. You want to be sure that if you run into any kind of problems, your broker can solve the issue. Having that faith in your broker is crucial.

Always go with a broker that provides round-the-clock customer support. All these are true for IG. They check all the boxes. And for IG DAX Weekend trading, you even get low fees as well!

Where Can I Trade the DAX? The Different Market Places

There are multiple ways of trading the DAX. One way could be trading the stocks of each DAX company. But if you know anything about trading, you would know that this will be a monumental task.

It will take a lot of time and could be tedious. You will have to be on the edge of your seat at all times. However, there is an easier and better way of trading DAX. You can opt for brokers. You can choose many brokers like IG, IC, AVATRADE, FPMARKETS, PEPPERSTONE, and more.

But IG is one of the most reputed ones. And they also offer DAX IG weekend trading. Which is a plus.

The prices on DAX are constantly moving around. This creates an opportunity for you as the trader. You get more trading opportunities. But it also means that it can be hard to keep track of it all. And that is why it is good to go with a broker.

In General, How and What Products Can I Trade Over the Weekend?

Weekend DAX Trading Tips

Before wrapping up, I wanted to include some tried and true weekend DAX trading tips and tricks. All these will help you with your trading game.

These are not some mastermind tricks. All these are pretty straightforward and are general best practices you should keep in mind when trading on the DAX over the weekend. Since DAX trading is similar to trading other assets, mindset, discipline, and consistency are very important.

Apart from that, you can still make some pretty wise moves if you keep the following tips in mind.

Plus500 is a trusted global brand that offers an easy-to-use trading platform for online traders, alongside access to share trading, crypto and a thorough selection of CFDs.

Test Your Analysis

Always rely on data. Make sure to test your analysis thoroughly. And you should also decide on your entry-level, stop loss, and exit point. This is more important if you are using technical analysis to decide the levels to trade.

Do Not Place Large Percentages on Single Trades

This is a basic trading principle. But I still felt that I should reiterate this one. No matter how confident you are about a trade or asset, you should never place a large percentage of your capital on one single trade. It is a big no-no and a risk.

Refine Your Technique

If you want to be a pro at trading, you need to treat it like a full-time commitment. You need to update your skills, refine your technique and keep learning the ropes of the trade. It takes time and skill to get good at it. You can look at DAX forecasts to gain info about the market and make informed decisions.

Mental State Is Important

This might seem like a very small thing. But in reality, it is very important. You should always be in a good place mentally and physically when you start to trade. Never trade when you are under a lot of stress, tired or anxious. This may cause you to make hasty decisions which can end up backfiring.

Wrapping Up

There you have it. Now you know all about DAX weekend trading. If you are thinking of trading on the weekends, you still need to be extra careful. The prices and rules might be slightly different.

So, be sure to do full research before taking any bold actions. With some practice, you should be just fine.

DAX Trading

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DAX and when did it start?

DAX is a stock exchange index consisting of the 40 biggest German blue chips traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (DAX). The DAX is an average price index based on the price movements of the 40 biggest German companies listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, including banks, insurance companies, utilities, industrial companies, construction companies, retail companies, transport companies, telecommunications companies, media companies and financial institutions. The index is a product and registered word and figurative mark of Deutsche Börse AG. DAX was first published on 1st July 1988 with an initial index value of 1,163 point

Who created DAX?

Frank Mella, then an editor at Börsen-Zeitung, is recognised as DAX’s inventor. His publisher had given him the task of creating a German stock market index. The editor showed the exposé to a group of bank experts and the rest is history.

What is IG Dax Weekend Trading Strategy?

This strategy is based on the idea that if we know what the market will do next week, then it should be easy to predict where the price will be at the end of this weekend. The key here is to look at the past performance of the stock and find out whether its recent movements were positive or negative. If they were positive, then we would expect the stock to rise further. On the other hand, if they were negative, then we would expect it to fall further.

Is DAX open on Saturday?

The answer is yes. The DAX will continue trading during weekends and holidays.

What is the best time to trade the DAX?

The best time to trade the German stock market index (DAX) depends on what you want out of it. If you just want to profit from short term price movements, then trading at the opening bell will give you the most bang for your buck. But if you want to benefit from long term trends, then waiting until after lunchtime may be better.
